Looting Sprees
Just under a hundred people were arrested after protesters targeted supermarkets in Durban.
The protesters walked into two supermarkets and helped themselves to perishable goods. Police were called and 94 people were arrested for theft.
Nozipho Mteshana, chairwoman of the SA Unemployed Peoples’ Movement, warned that the food snatches would continue until the plight of the jobless was recognized.
Denying that this was “looting” she said there the protestors had done “nothing wrong” and had simply taken food as they were hungry and needed it.
