a Letter to my Younger-self

A Letter to my younger self.

DSP Travel Mega Kit by DSP Designers
Butterfly wings: SVC Free Your Mind - by Nicole Young

Journaling:
Dear Amanda,

I know you... you do not know me... but we are intimately connected... you see, I am your future... I have travelled the path you are still going to take, so I can tell you that your journey is just beginning.

I am not going to tell you the paths and pitfalls that await you, as each and every choice you make will build the person I am today. And, while the adult me may have moments when I wish I had opted for the more dangerous, more 'out there on the edge' choice... I acknowledge that any change in the past may change who and what I am today; and again the truth is that I really do not want things to be any different. Don't get me wrong, there are things I wish were different, but this is who I am in 2010 and I would not want to change a single thing.

I am not going to tell you details about your husband, children or studies and career. All these wonderful things will happen regardless, and although you hate surprises some things should just not be something expected or a given. Life is, after all, an adventure; a journey and not a destination; a process of growth and discovery and not just an achievement. Take time, enjoy the trip.
What I would like to do is to remind you that you are unique and special, and those insecurities you have - lots of people have them! I would like to tell you that you are strong, far stronger than you realise now. Embrace your strengths and accept your areas of weakness, knowledge is power.
For all those times you feel like you are on the outside looking in... use the opportunity to study people, this is a skill, a strength, trust your judgement and instincts... they are sound. Then open the door and join in more!
It is true that you cannot please all of the people all of the time. Some people will like you, others will not - regardless of who you and what you are - understand that is human nature, get over it and celebrate those people who share life's journey with you. They are the people who count!

Smile more, be more accepting and don't be so hard on yourself.
Your name means Beloved... remember this ALWAYS... you are loved.
Spread your wings and fly, all it takes is a leap of faith.
Quisque Sibi Verus.

3 IMPORTANT LESSONS FROM A WORD CUP

LESSONS FROM A WORLD CUP by MANDY TREGASKIS

  • HOW TO WIN
I see Spain is going to win the World Cup...

Its true...
the Octopus has chosen! Perhaps the octopus has a thing for Torres?

LESSON: Your team must bribe the octopus to win the World Cup. Or you need to turn him into nice calamari steak with a little lemon butter and chilli.

  • FIELD INVASIONS
Did you see two men run onto the field in the last match?

1. One very good looking Italian in a Superman shirt - he got a light fine in the FIFA court - the newspaper said the women were all in love with him - plus he got a light fine because he did it for world peace! Good looking and World Peace - what a winner. He had planned to run onto the field using a wheelchair to get close.

2. The other was a German. He did not get off so lightly - he was not as good looking - plus he ran onto the field when a friend dared him.

LESSON: Only try running onto the field if you are good-looking, prepared to be photographed without your shirt on - and support World Peace.

  • GETTING TO THE GAME ON TIME
Did you see that about 1900 people missed the game in Durban when their flights could not land at King Shaka airport?

LESSON: Fly a lot earlier if you want to get to the game. Or do what the rich do - Charter your own flight and park illegally at the airport so that the commercial flights have to turn around and go back!

Fly Your Flag

Digi-scrapper inspiration piece - July Digital Scrapbook Place Newsletter by MandyT

I have a confession to make, I am not really a flag person, or at least I wasn’t until living through the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Suddenly every street corner had flag sellers, cars were sporting at least one little flag or more, or mirror-sox; houses, gates, walls… suddenly the whole country was a flutter with bright color. That’s when the nagging started: “Mom, can we get a flag for our car, please…” At every traffic light I became the target as I clearly had no brightly colored pendant fluttering in the breeze. Telling children they had their own little flags at home, made less than no impression at all. I pointed out some cars had an over-zealous six or seven flags each and my argument was that those cars more than made up for mine… a tactic that failed miserably. Eventually I gave in and bought some mirror-sox. Little did I know that that was only the beginning of our household’s flag fest.

My house is now festooned like a building housing a United Nations summit… I even have a FIFA flag proclaiming Football is Life! Yet, I love it. There really is something special about a flag fluttering in the wind, the colors vividly glowing in the last of the evening light. Somehow, a flag seems to carry with it the hope, pride and passions of a nation and that is something truly inspirational.

So this July, my challenge to you is to fly your flag in a layout!
Watch the challenge forums at DSP to take part in my Fly your Flag challenge for a change to win a DSP store voucher!

Photos taken at the Holland vs Japan World Cup match at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium: loved this photo I took of the South African flag being waved by a supporter a few rows down. I duplicated the layer extracted the flag, and added a shadow. I then desaturated the photograph on the lower level and attached it to a layer mask - part of Tina's QC template.
